L-Arginine, in plain terms
What is L-Arginine?
L-Arginine is an amino acid, one of the building blocks of protein. It is called semi-essential: your body makes some of it, and food supplies the rest (meat, fish, eggs, pulses, nuts). Its best-known job is to serve as the raw material for nitric oxide, a molecule that helps blood vessels relax and let blood through.
Alphavital L-Arginine delivers 500 mg of high-purity L-Arginine per capsule, in a cellulose vegetable capsule. Each box holds 60 capsules. That is the whole formula: no flavouring, no sugar, nothing hidden.
Who is it for? Any healthy adult who wants to support their circulation and keep their energy up, day after day. It suits, for example, people with busy, active days, people who spend long hours sitting or standing, active seniors who value their daily walks, people getting back into exercise, and regular athletes.
What’s inside, and what each ingredient does
| Component | Per capsule | Role |
|---|---|---|
| High-purity L-Arginine | 500 mg | Semi-essential amino acid, the precursor of nitric oxide. Supports blood flow to the muscles, their oxygenation and their recovery. |
| Vegetable capsule (cellulose) | — | 100 % plant-based shell, free from animal gelatine. |
| Magnesium stearate (plant origin) | — | Plant-origin processing aid, used in a very small amount. |
What 500 mg means in practice: at 2 capsules a day you get 1 g of L-Arginine; at 3 capsules, 1.5 g. It is a steady top-up on top of what your diet already provides, designed for regular daily use. The ingredient list is reproduced exactly as printed on the box.
How does L-Arginine work on circulation and exercise?
Inside the body, L-Arginine is converted into nitric oxide. This molecule tells the walls of your blood vessels to relax, so blood flows more freely and carries oxygen and nutrients to your muscles. This central role of arginine is described in a landmark review of its metabolism (Wu et al., 2009, Amino Acids).
On circulation, a meta-analysis of 12 short-term placebo-controlled trials (492 participants) found that oral L-Arginine improved the ability of blood vessels to widen and let blood through, only in people for whom that ability was low to begin with (Bai et al., 2009, Am J Clin Nutr).
Beyond circulation, your body also uses arginine to build proteins and creatine, your muscles’ quick-release energy reserve. It also helps clear ammonia, a waste product made when the body uses protein (Wu et al., 2009).
During exercise, a systematic review and meta-analysis pooled trials in active people and athletes. It reports favourable effects of arginine supplementation on some markers of aerobic and anaerobic performance, with results that vary between protocols (Viribay et al., 2020, Nutrients). An earlier review of nitric-oxide-related supplements calls for caution: in highly trained athletes, the findings remain inconclusive (Bescós et al., 2012, Sports Med). This is research, shared for information, not a promise of results.
On safety, a risk assessment published in 2008 looked at L-Arginine intake in healthy adults; the amounts studied without adverse effects are well above the dose suggested here (Shao & Hathcock, 2008, Regul Toxicol Pharmacol). A food supplement does not replace any treatment or medical advice: it goes alongside a varied diet and an active lifestyle.

What you’re looking for, and what supports it
| This sounds like you if… | What L-Arginine supports |
|---|---|
| Stairs or a brisk walk take more effort than they used to | Blood flow to the muscles, through nitric oxide |
| Your legs feel heavy by the end of the day, after long hours sitting or standing | Blood flow that carries oxygen and nutrients to your muscles |
| Busy days leave you with no energy by evening | Everyday vitality and energy |
| You play sport, or you are easing back into activity | Physical performance and endurance |
| You bounce back slowly after a physical day or a workout | Blood flow to the muscles after exercise, which goes hand in hand with recovery |
| You want to know exactly what you are taking | 500 mg of L-Arginine per capsule, nothing but a vegetable capsule, ONSSA compliant product |
How to take it
Take 2 to 3 capsules a day, ideally on an empty stomach or 30 minutes before activity, with a large glass of water. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
On days when you move more (sport, a long walk, a physical workday), taking it half an hour beforehand makes the most sense: the arginine is there when your muscles need it. On other days, take your capsules in the morning on an empty stomach. How quickly you notice a difference varies from person to person; what matters is consistency.
How long a box lasts: at 2 capsules a day, a 60-capsule box covers a one-month course; at 3 capsules a day, 20 days. For an unbroken two-month routine, you can order several boxes at once.
A useful pairing: arginine goes before exercise, for circulation. Magnesium takes over afterwards: it contributes to normal muscle function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. That is why you can add MAG-COMPLEX in the evening. Store the box in a cool, dry place and check that the seal is intact on delivery.
